Quotes From The June 5th Flagstaff City Council Meeting

By Elisha Dorfsmith

Here are some memorable quotes (with commentary) from tonight’s Flagstaff City Council meeting:

Councilmember Overton:

“I’m the strongest advocate for keeping it (the property tax) flat.”

After saying this, Overton voted to increase the property tax.

Councilmember Woodson:

“This is our opportunity to save the taxpayers $1,000 a day.”

Woodson voted no on the tax increase.

Mayor Presler

“”I like it when I call 911 and someone comes.”

Presler upped the scare tactics even further by saying that if the 2% tax increase was not approved police, fire and kid’s programs would all be cut drastically.

Presler promised that with current property assessments, this 2% property tax increase will actually decrease property taxes and property owners will end up saving money on their tax bills. It’s what I call 2 + 2 = 5 math. FUSD tried to add like this during the last override and we all know what happened.

Councilmember Evans

“The General Fund is all core services”

Well, if donating $262,000 to United Way and $30,944 to the Arizona Cardinals counts as core services than I guess so.

There will be a final vote on the 2% property tax increase on June 19th. Please contact the Council and ask them to vote no.

In other business, the Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution to prepare for global warming over the next 88 years.

Thanks Elisha. Wanted to go see the lame ducks quack but was busy generating sales tax revenue.

Where do entities that exist on taxpayer funds get off donating any of those funds to charity of their choice? Let the taxpayers donate their own monies as they see fit. It floors me to hear school district suppported ads on NPR, and now this…

I think we really need to hit on the non-profits receiving our tax dollars. That is wrong! Let them keep police and fire and take out the needed funds from the money they are donating to the non-profits. Individuals and business are supposed to donate to non-profits if they wish.

With Boobs like these, I’m grateful I live outside city limits. Stunning ignorance!
