City Of Flagstaff Takes On Global Warming

By Elisha Dorfsmith

With an even more impressive than usual display of fear mongering and scare tactics, the Flagstaff City Council agreed to push ahead with a resolution to deal with global warming over the next 88 years. Woodson and Overton were the only council members opposed to moving forward.

The resolution will cover the following areas:

1. Build, sustain and leverage local and regional partnerships.

2. Identify vulnerable populations.

3. Institutionalize an incremental resiliency review structure into City decisions and operations.

4. Incorporate flexibility of design into infrastructure development needs.

5. Prioritize proactive education.

6. Integrate resource scarcity; and climate-related risk and uncertainty into all City planning.

7. Allocate municipal resources necessary to adapt the City’s physical design and operations.

Council member Al White went so far as to suggest that if the resolution did not move forward Flagstaff could fade away as other civilizations have in the past. Vice Mayor Barotz pleaded with dissenting council members to understand the urgency of global warming. She begged them to read an alarming new book on climate change that she had recently finished.

The final version of this resolution will be on the June 5, 2012 agenda.

Is there no way to stop this? And if not, can the new council overturn it?

  3. May 22, 2012 at 9:13 pm

If we turn out in force to speak out against it at the June 5th meeting we may be able to stop it. Overturning it once it passes will be difficult.

–88 years is a little beyond their pay grade, let alone legal authority, or any sense of practicality… But it MAY be their best chance to outlive themselves, so, gotta give-em that.
–“Leverage” is such a lovely word. Especially when used by a government.
–Populations which are “invulnerable” to global warming would be a more challenging find, no?
–“Institutionalize”. Ah. Another lovely one. In this case, a (tiny little) government wishes it’s decree to compel its citizens to have a new “norm”. Ahhhh.
–For total flexibility, don’t make stupid laws.
–I would prefer “Active” education, rather than “Proactive”. That is to say, teach kiddos how things REALLY are, without enticing them to be little propaganda sponges for the Council’s delusional elitist morality. i.e. To Learn and Decipher with critical thought, both the implications and underlying facts conveyed in the collection of leaked emails now known as “Climategate” and “Climategate 2.0”, as opposed to fooling the little kiddos into thinking that when the floods come, (to 7000 feet) they will have to choose between themselves and their teddy-bears for the last available tree branch.
–These guys can’t plan their own reelections. How can they plan your resources? … Well, just give your resources to them, so they can try. It’s only fair.
–Change the physical attributes of the City. Gotta love that one! With Taxpayer Resources–I guess they DO know how to manage resources!
Any readers of this blog that contended that the PMO was not Agenda 21…. We forgive you. Now, it’s time to WAKE UP! You cannot deny that this is a blatant attempt to implement openly, what would have been (slightly) more codified in the PMO.
If you insist on proving that you are to stupid to be aware of this fact, please see the links provided in comments of various articles in this blog, containing direct sources from the UN, ICLEI, rather reliable news sources, and the Climategate letters–Then come back and finish proving how stupid a person can be.
I am rather sorry for losing my manners, but time is short for all of us. That the time is short for the Council is shown by the fact that they’ve grown from the docile worms of the PMO failure to World-Altering Dragons in a few weeks–All they want is YOUR money to make the world into THEIR (Marxist Utopian) dream.
————I’m sorry. Did someone say, “recall elections”?————–

So a local group of politicians has decided they know what’s best for us, never mind that the recent election should have been a clear indication that their ideas were not favored. An example of what can happen when a group with the numbers to do so takes advantage of its superior position to circumvent the spirit of the law while observing its details.

If you think this is bad, wait until the US Senate approves the Laws of the Sea Treaty.

This is a resolution, so it’s not something that can be enforced. Can we work to get it rescinded when the new council is seated?

  7. May 23, 2012 at 6:23 am

It could be rescinded but it would be much easier to stop it before they pass it on June 5th. Call and email the Council and speak at the June 5th meeting. While this resolution may not have teeth, it will affect policy decisions and direction over the next 88 years.

Per Ordinance, any email sent to the Council, Which specifically Addresses an Agenda Item MUST be Entered Into the Record in the same manner as the public comment cards.

So, long emails, containing in their context, detailed explanations, quotes, source materials and their links, press releases, and source documents (i.e. Cimategate Letters, etc), legal arguments of authority or constitutionality, discussions of oaths of office, private party budget analysis, must ALL be entered into record,

    (Don’t let them change that.)
