Coconino County Gives Bonuses After Threatening To Cut Essential Services

By Elisha Dorfsmith

“The County has reduced below what is healthy.” — Carl Taylor, Coconino County Board of Supervisors

On July 12, 2011 the Coconino County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to increase county property taxes by 2%. 60 concerned citizens showed up to protest the property tax increase and were told by the board that essential services would be cut if the tax increase did not pass.

Coconino County Unanimously Approves Property Tax Hike

Yesterday, the Daily Sun reported that 985 county employees would be receiving a 2.5% bonus at the end of this month. That’s an average of $1,000 for each county employee. County employees are getting bonuses at the expense of home and business owners who are struggling to pay their bills and keep their homes and businesses despite the ever increasing tax rates.

The government monster never shrinks and it must feed on the people in order to grow.  The above story is a perfect example of that.

From the County Board of Supervisiors to Sheriff we are being bled dry by an unaccountable county level government. Wake up folks! 2012 is upon us and there are some Constitutional options at the county level on the ballot this year.
